Second Chance Dog Rescue
& Referral, Inc. (SCDR) is a non-profit, 501(c)3
organization, run by volunteers who are dedicated to the rescue
of purebred dogs. We operate in two locations - Guyton, GA (just west of Savannah) and Seale, AL (just west of Phenix City). Although SCDR focuses on purebred rescue, there
are sometimes mixed-breed dogs available for adoption. Most of
the rescued dogs are selected from the local high-kill, animal
control shelter. Dogs are also turned over to SCDR by owners who,
for various reasons, are no longer able to keep them.

All dogs in the
rescue program are:
- given a complete veterinary
examination
- vaccinated against distemper,
parvovirus, hepatitis, leptospirosis,
parainfluenza, rabies, and "kennel cough"
- checked for intestinal
parasites and treated as needed
- spayed or neutered
- checked for heartworms and
treated for heartworm infestation if positive,
or put on prevention if negative
- given a dental cleaning if
needed
- treated for whatever other
medical problems they may have
- tattooed and/or microchipped for permanent
identification
Some services we
provide to the community are:
- Provide a referral service of
Breed Rescue organizations to owners
of purebred dogs who are unable to keep their pets
- Provide a referral service to
families wishing to adopt a purebred dog
- Assist with transportation of
dogs that are being relocated to rescue
organizations/foster homes out of the immediate area
- Provide foster care to purebred dogs until loving
homes can be found
or until space becomes available in Breed Rescue
- Rescue purebred dogs from
local animal control shelters
- Educate the community about
responsible pet ownership
